Know Your Watering Schedule: A Mandate for Conservation

To ensure a sustainable water supply, The Villages operates under specific, mandatory irrigation restrictions, primarily governed by the St. Johns River and Southwest Florida Water Management Districts. Far from being a derogatory term, "Cracker" in this context refers to the early pioneer settlers of Florida, many of whom were cattlemen who used whips that cracked loudly – hence the moniker.
